Musical concerts coming to Crestview this spring

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) — Students and community groups are bringing music to Crestview as part of a spring concert series.

According to a release, selections from classics, Broadway, folk, pop, orchestral, ecclesiastical, and traditional genres will be performed at four concerts.

The following are the concerts coming to Crestview, according to the release.

Crestview High School Chorus Concert:

The CHS Chorus Concert is set for 7 p.m. on May 9 at the Crestview High School Pearl Tyner Auditorium.

“Fresh from their thunderous reception in Noirmoutier, Crestview’s French Sister City, the chorus presents a program ranging from Stevie Wonder to American folk to an Anglo-Irish blessing,” the release said.

According to the release, tickets will be $10 and are available from Music Director Kevin Lusk until the day of the concert until the day of the concert when they become available on GoFan.co.

Crestview Community Chorus:

This free-admission concert is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, at Warriors Hall, Whitehurst Municipal Building (201 Stillwell Boulevard), the release said.

“For its ‘Potpourri of Music’ spring concert, Broadway hits including ‘Consider Yourself’ from ‘Oliver,’ ‘Somewhere’ from ‘West Side Story,’ ‘Summertime’ from ‘Porgi and Bess,’ and ‘They Call the Wind Maria’ from ‘Paint Your Wagon’ join classics such as ‘Down By the Riverside,’ ‘Prayer of St. Francis’ and ‘Sing Out,’ a mashup of several pop favorites including ‘I’d Like to teach the World to Sing,’ ‘I Believe in Music’ and the Carpenters’ ‘Sing,'” the release said.

Although the concert is free, the release noted that donations are welcome.

Crestview High School Band Concert:

The band concert is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at the Crestview High School Pearl Tyner Auditorium, according to the release. Doors open at 6 p.m.

“The Big Red Machine brings a wide, rousing and melodic variety of music played by several different ensembles,” the release said.

“We will even hear the premier of an original piece for wind ensemble by one of our senior members of the Crestview Band!” Band Director Jody Dunn said.

Attendees can listen to swing, jazz, and symphonic band music for free at this concert, according to the release.

North Okaloosa Community Band:

Eastern Shore leaders travel to Washington, D.C., seeking federal support on I-10 Bridge project

The performance set for Saturday, June 1 is perfect for those who cannot attend the group’s May 6 concert, according to the release.

North Okaloosa Community Band will be one of the performing groups at the Laurel Hill Arts and Heritage Festival at 8115 Fourth Street.

“The Crestview Community Chorus and the North Okaloosa Community Band are presentations of the Mayor’s Cultural Series,” the release noted.

Admission is free.
