Music and Blossom Festival in Cañon City this weekend

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The 86th Annual Music and Blossom Festival is taking place in Cañon City May 1-5, featuring a battle of the bands, parade, blossoms, fun run, carnival, and more.

This year’s celebration is Star Wars themed, as the festival coincides with Star Wars Day, on May the Fourth. Titled “Band Wars, Return of the Blossoms,” the festival will bring together high school and middle school bands in competitions for orchestra, jazz band, concert, parade, and concert choir.

The Blossom Festival dates back to around the 1860s, when it began as a celebration of the harvest and the bountiful fruit that came from Cañon City. Today, the festival has expanded to include vendors, food, blossoms, and the largest community-run school jazz band competition in the state.

The parade will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m. on Main Street. Also on Saturday and Sunday, the Blossom in the Park craft and kids fair will be held at Veterans Park, offering a wide variety of fun activities and local vendors.

Wright’s Amusements Giant Carnival will also be offering plenty of family fun starting Wednesday, May 1, and running through Sunday, May 5 at the top of 9th Street. The Blossom Festival is held every year at Veterans Park and the surrounding area in downtown Cañon City.
