Music night at Newhouse Park

The Delmont Recreation Committee will host a music night July 27 at Newhouse Park.

The committee will host a 5 p.m. community picnic with live entertainment by Flyin' Oaks and Company. Red Barn Winery will be on hand to sample and sell local wine and beer, and Kona Ice will be on hand with desserts.

There is no cost to attend. Newhouse Park is off Stotler Road in Delmont. The event will run until dusk.

Murrysville Police to host National Night Out

The Murrysville Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the public works parking lot, 4200 Sardis Road.

The evening will include friendly interaction between law enforcement and residents, and food available from the Wok on Wheel, Truckin' Triangle, Wing-Pizza-Fries and Comers Cold Stop food trucks.

County will bury 250th anniversary time capsule

Westmoreland County officials are seeking items to place in a time capsule that will be buried as part of its 250th anniversary.

Murrysville officials put a call out to residents to submit ideas about what to contribute that would be representative of the municipality.

Blood drive in Delmont

The American Red Cross will host an Aug. 1 blood drive at Salem Lutheran Church in Delmont.

It will be from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the church's fellowship hall, 301 East Pittsburgh Street in Delmont. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 800-733-2767 or visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering "SalemLuth" in the "Find a Blood Drive" search box.

Donors can also visit RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of an appointment.

Summer festivals

—Export's annual Ethnic Food and Music Festival will be from 12-9 p.m. Aug. 19 on Washington Avenue. Main stage entertainment will be DeStella Dance Studio (12:15 p.m.), Jack Tady (1 p.m.), The Licks (3:30 p.m.), Americana (5:30 p.m.) and Brothers Kelly (7:30 p.m.). The East End stage bands will be Winery Cats (1 p.m) and Liquor Missiles (3:30 p.m.).

—Murrysville's annual Concert in the Park will be Aug. 12 with Woodland Creatures (4 p.m.), Abbot's Cross (5:25 p.m.), RML Jazz (6:30 p.m.) and a headliner to be announced. It is at Murrysville Community Par, 4056 Wiestertown Road.

—Delmont Daze, 12-7 p.m. Aug. 5, with crafts, balloon art, face painting, Weird Eric the magician, food trucks, local spirits from White Valley Distillery, Salem Spirits and Red Barn Winery and more. Live music from On Our Way Home (1 p.m.), the Delmont Concert Band (3 p.m.) and Sweaty Already String Band (4 p.m.). It will be at the Rose Wigfield Parklet, 27 Greensburg St.

Elderly kindness program at Delmont library

The Delmont Public Library will host a children's program on "Kindness to the Elderly" on July 31.

The program will be at 6:30 p.m. and is intended for children ages 2-12. Registration is required at DelmontLibrary.org.

The library is at 75 School Street in Delmont.

Delmont Nursery School registration open

Spots are still open for a 3-year-old class at the Delmont Nursery School, hosted at Delmont Presbyterian Church.

Registration is currently open for fall classes, which take place two days per week. Register by calling 724-468-5804.

The church is at 101 Church Street in Delmont.

Donations for Delmont library book sale

Delmont Public Library officials are accepting donations for its annual book sale, set for Aug 19.

Library staff will accept fiction, nonfiction and children's books as well as DVDs and books on CD through Aug. 17. Musty or moldy books, or encyclopedias will not be accepted.

Donations can be dropped off at the library, 75 School Street in Delmont.

The Westmoreland County Democratic Committee will host its annual picnic from 1-3:30 p.m. Aug. 6.

It will be in Pavilion No. 5 at Mammoth Park, 171 County Park Road in Mount Pleasant.

There is no cost to attend. All registered Democrats are invited, and may bring a covered dish to share.
