Library speaker focuses on 'Action-Packed' painting series

Oil painter Clare Mears Stefanini will discuss painting people in motion at an Aug. 28 presentation in the Murrysville Community Library.

Stefanini will discuss her "Action-Packed" exhibition, a series of paintings capturing motion and sometimes multiple images of a figure in one painting. She has exhibited works at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania State Museum and local venues and libraries. "Action-Packed" will be on display through the end of August at the library.

Coxcomb restaurant to host grand opening

The Coxcomb, a restaurant opening in the former Bella Luna space in Murrysville, will hold a soft opening the weekend of Aug. 18, with a grand opening the weekend of Aug. 25.

The Coxcomb is at 5060 William Penn Highway near the Murrysville/Monroeville border.

Franklin Regional open house tours

Franklin Regional school officials will host open house tours of its school buildings in August for all students. They will take place on the following dates:

—Senior high school: 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 17, 18 and 21, for students entering grades 9-12.

—Middle school: Sixth grade, Aug. 17; seventh grade, Aug. 18; eighth grade, Aug. 21. All open houses are from 6:30-8 p.m.

—Primary and intermediate schools: Aug. 17 for students entering kindergarten and third grade. Parents of kindergarten students will be able to sign up for a staggered start date and time at this event; first and fourth grades, Aug. 18; and for second and fifth grades, Aug. 21. All open houses are from 6-7:30 p.m.

Int'l Women will host Cuba presentation

The International Women club's next meeting will feature a presentation on Cuba by club member and local travel agent Sharon Battle.

The meeting is at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road in Monroeville. All women in the community are invited to attend.

The church's "Mother's Day Out" babysitting program is suspended until further notice.

Memorial event benefits Westmoreland Heritage Trail

The third annual Ted Hayes Memorial Bike Ride/Run/Walk to benefit the Westmoreland Heritage Trail will be Aug. 26 at the Slickville Fireman's Pavilion.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the event kicking off at 10 a.m. Along with Bill O'Hara, Hayes oversaw development of the first section of trail, from Slickville to Saltsburg. He was an active volunteer and trail board member.

The ride/walk/run will leave from the pavilion, 3028 Route 819 in Slickville, and go to Saltsburg and back, with a picnic lunch, auction baskets and entertainment to follow. Registration is $35.

Festival street closures

Export officials announced the following street closures for the borough's upcoming Ethnic Food & Music Festival, set for Aug. 19:

—Gale Court will close at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 and will reopen at 8 a.m. Aug. 20

—The borough parking lot will close at 11 p.m. Aug. 18 and reopen at 8 a.m. Aug. 20. The lot is closed to parking with the exception of vendors who have a parking pass.

—Washington Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. Aug. 18 to 8 a.m. Aug. 20.

—Lincoln Avenue will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 19. Drivers can detour via Polk Street, Madison Avenue and the borough parking lot.

—Brick Hill Road will be closed at District Court 10-3-02 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 19.
