'Murphy Brown' calls out Sarah Huckabee Sanders for lying

Murphy Brown took a big swing at Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday night. Frustrated by the lack of transparency in Donald Trump's administration, Murphy Brown visited a White House press briefing to share a piece of her mind. Using stock footage, the show was able to edit in a confrontation between Murphy and Sarah. Murphy told Sarah, "The role of the White House Press Secretary is to create transparency in the government and tell the American people the truth, but that's not what happens in this room." Murphy provided examples of Trump contradicting himself, like the purpose of meeting with Russians in Trump Tower, and the handling of immigrant family separation policy at the border. She then told Sarah, "It all comes down to the same thing... Why do you lie?" Sarah's reply, again from stock footage, was "I think that's an absolutely ridiculous question." It doesn't see that ridiculous in hindsight, considering the day before the show aired CNN correspondent Jim Acosta and Sarah Huckabee Sanders accused each other of not telling the truth. Obviously the episode had been shots weeks before the aforementioned incident, but it highlights the prevalence of Trump's war on the media and "fake news." Murphy Brown airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
