Apr. 1—GRAND FORKS — The Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre company is presenting Agatha Christie's classic mystery "Murder on the Nile" at the Fire Hall Theatre, 412 Second Ave. N.

The show opens Thursday, April 4, with a performance beginning at 7 p.m.

Performances are planned for 7 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays through April 20, and at 2 p.m. Sundays, April 7 and 14.

The play revolves around Kay Ridgeway, who has led a charmed life, said Amy Driscoll, executive director of the GGFCT. "Blessed with beauty, enormous wealth and a new husband, she embarks on a honeymoon voyage down the Nile.

"Fatal circumstances await when the idyllic surroundings are shattered by a shocking and brutal murder," Driscoll said. "Under scrutiny is a multitude of memorable passengers, all with a reason to kill. The tension and claustrophobia builds, as a shocking and audacious conspiracy is laid bare."

The show is rated as PG-13 for some mature content, she said.

The world's best-selling author of all time, English writer Dame Christie is best known for detective novels, short story collections, plays and famous sleuths Hercule Poirot and Miss Marpel.

Directing the play are Dave and Kirsten Dauphinais; Kayla Pinkard is stage manager.

Cast members include: Brian Baier, Leslie Lekatz, J. Paul Zimmerman, Brooke Rieder, Isaac Engels, Tina Wilkening, Becky Zimmerman, Hannah Kosman, Matt Stavens, Ryan MacLeod and Lucas Rieder.

Director Dave Dauphinais said Agatha Christie plays have seen a resurgence with the release of movies based on her books in recent years.

"Her stories are fun to stage because they combine drama, mystery and tension — all with a healthy dash of humor," Dauphinais said.

"Our audiences seem to enjoy our productions very much, as ticket sales are always brisk — so reserve your tickets today," he said.

Dave and Kirsten Dauphinais have also directed other Agatha Christie plays at the Fire Hall Theatre in the past: "And Then There Were None" in 2018 and "Murder on the Orient Express" in 2022.
