It's a mural fit for a star. It's larger than life. The bright colors catch your eye as you drive east along West 16th Street in Indianapolis. Most important to its artist, it stands for what feels like the start of a new life given to Indiana's home NBA basketball team.

Kwazar Martin, the muralist behind the artwork, says when he watched Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton lead the team to the NBA's in-season tournament he saw someone around whom a franchise could be created.

Raised in Indianapolis in the early 1990s in what he calls a "rough neighborhood" on the east side, Martin says he's seen the ups and downs of Pacers teams. He says Haliburton has given the Pacers life.

"I just wanted to do a piece out here to make sure he had something up here that represents him," Martin said. "For the people that are coming in from out of town to see that we support the athletes here."

The mural is accessible to see up close, with ample parking. Martin hopes you'll visit, but he also hopes his piece inspires other artists to express themselves openly and proudly.

"Do the work," he said. "Put yourself out there."
