The Muppets: Utkarsh Ambudkar cast in villainous role

'The Muppets' casts 'Pitch Perfect' alum in villainous role

A new threat is coming to The Muppets, and it’s even bigger than Miss Piggy’s glove budget.

EW can exclusively reveal that Utkarsh Ambudkar, best known to viewers as rapper Donald in Pitch Perfect and Mindy’s brother Rishi on The Mindy Project, has joined the cast of ABC’s The Muppets in a villainous role. He’ll be introduced in the show’s midseason premiere on Feb. 2.

The 32-year-old will play a network executive — oh, the youth of Hollywood! — who threatens the sanctity of Kermit’s not-so-tightly-run late-night ship and tries to intervene and change up the show. Ambudkar plays a branding exec, so the possibilities for his potential ruin of Up Late With Miss Piggy are as limitless as your hashtags.

It’s a recurring role, too, meaning he’ll be a thorn in Kermit’s swampy side — and, perhaps, Piggy’s, too — for multiple antagonistic engagements.

The Muppets moves to a new time — 8:30 p.m. — when it returns on Feb. 2 to ABC.
