‘Mulan’ Live-Action Re-Imagining at Sony Taps ‘Game of Thrones’ Director
Alex Graves is coming on to direct Sony’s new live-action “Mulan” re-imagining, sources confirmed to Variety.
The Sony film is penned by Jason Keller and produced by Doug Belgrad, whose 2.0 Entertainment will be a co-financier and producer on the pic.
The movie is one of two “Mulan” projects in the works, with Disney also adapting a version, which is based on their 1998 animated movie. The story follows the legend of Chinese warrior Hua Mulan, who disguised herself as her father to take his place in the Imperial Army after he fell ill.
No production date has been set, but the film has gained steam in order to keep pace with Disney. The Mouse House recently dated their remake for Nov. 2, 2018.
Graves is best known for his work in the the television realm, specifically on shows like “The West Wing,” “House of Cards,” and the upcoming NBC drama “Taken,” which premieres next year. He is also one of the main directors on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” having directed such action-heavy episodes as “The Mountain and the Viper,” which featured the fight between Oberyn Martell and Ser Gregor Clegane, one of the show’s more iconic battle scenes.
