Mulan Dodges Arrows ‘Matrix’ Style in Super Bowl TV Spot (Video)

The latest teaser trailer for “Mulan,” which will air during the Super Bowl on Sunday, shows our hero in the heat of battle and even dodging incoming arrows in slow motion as if she was in “The Matrix.”

Disney is back at it with a live-action remake of “Mulan” after earning two $1 billion-plus hits with remakes of “Aladdin” and “The Lion King.” This updated take on the animated film from director Niki Caro hits theaters next month, and a new full trailer for the movie will be available Sunday following the Super Bowl ad.

“It’s my duty, to fight for the kingdom, to protect my family,” Mulan, as played by Liu Yifei, says in the trailer. “I will bring honor to us all.”

The “Mulan” remake is inspired heavily by the wuxia genre of sweeping, colorful martial arts films, and if the film contains any of the songs that made the animated film famous, we haven’t heard them yet.

Of course, this will be far from the last Disney remake. Two weeks ago, it was reported that a CGI remake of “Bambi” is now in the works, and a “101 Dalmatians” spinoff called “Cruella” starring Emma Stone is set for release in 2021.

Directed by Niki Caro, “Mulan” also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, Rosalind Chao, Tzi Ma and Jet Li. The film hits theaters March 27. Watch the Super Bowl TV spot above.
