The streamer has taken all rights for U.S. and streaming rights for Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Turkey and Latin America in advance of its North American premiere at Toronto on September 9.

Sales company Heretic has also cinched distribution deals in a flurry of territories: I Wonder Pictures (Italy); Filmin (Spain); Njutafilms (Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway); Films4U (Portugal); Aurora (Poland); Filmgarten (Austria); European Film Forum Scanorama (Lithuania); and Cinobo (Greece). Warner Bros. Discovery has picked up Eastern and Central European rights and will be shown on HBO, HBO Max and Cinemax in Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary Poland, Romania, Moldova (non-exclusive Romanian language), Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, which premiered at Locarno last month, explores the dizzying landscape of cinema, capitalism and technology in post-totalitarian Romania.

The film is split in two parts: The first follows Angela, an overworked and underpaid production assistant who must drive around the city of Bucharest to film the casting for a Safety at Work video, commissioned by a multinational company. In the second part of the film, one of the interviewees, Marian, reveals on camera that his work-related accident is due to the company’s negligence. His statement ignites a scandal, which forces him to reinvent  his story to suit the company’s narrative.

Deadline’s Damon Wise described the title as a “complex satire” and a film that “could be genuinely seminal in its anarchic and totally individualistic approach.”

Heretic’s Head of Sales Ioanna Stais said: “Ever unapologetic, Radu’s witty and subversive work is both a product and a reflection of today, cementing its incredible impact on audiences. We are truly excited to be sharing his work with the world, a work that speaks the language of our times.”

The film is produced by Adrian Sitaru of 4 Proof Film and Ada Solomon of microFilm, Romania. It’s co-produced by Paul Thiltges Distributions (LUX), Les Films D’ici (FR) and Kinorama (CR) in association with Bord Cadre (Ch) & Sovereign Films (UK) which will also be handling the film’s UK distribution.

Heretic repped Jude’s last title Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, which won the 2021 Golden Bear in Berlin.
