MTV Movie & TV Awards: ‘Beauty And The Beast,’ ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Get Out’ & Among Winners

Disney’s live-action Beauty And The Beast and Netflix freshman sensation Stranger Things were the big winners of the expanded MTV Movie and TV awards. Each nabbed two prizes, including Best Actor for stars Emma Watson and Millie Bobby Brown, as well as Movie and Show Of The Year. Get Out’s breakout stars, Daniel Kaluuya and Lil Rel Howery, also each got golden popcorn trophies, for Next Generation and Best Comedic Performance, respectively.

The award show, broadcast live this year unlike recent tape-delayed editions, honored work across the various platforms, doing away with gender distinction. The show also new categories for stories that the network described as “timely” such as Best Fight Against The System, which went to Hidden Figures.

Vin Diesel and his Fast & Furious fam were honored with the Generation Awards and Diesel gave a special shout-out to the generation “that was willing to accept this multicultural franchise where is didn’t matter what color your skin was or what culture you were from. When you’re family, you’re family.”

Among the other winners were Logan‘s Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen for Best Dou, Trevor Noah for Best Host, This Is Us got the Tearjerker award, and Moonlight nabbed Best Kiss.

Workaholics star Adam Devine hosted the ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. MTV was forced to shut down the red carpet, which was suppose to stream live on its Twitter account, due to the brief hail storm moments before the show started. Several musical acts performed outside despite the deluge, as other VIPs and media huddled in a nearby parking garage.
