‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Renewed For Season 2 At Prime Video

Mr. and Mrs. Smith fans will finally find out what happened at the end of Season 1 as the show has been renewed for a second season by Prime Video.

From co-creators and EPs Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, the series— a reimagining of the 2005 film of the same name— stars Glover and Maya Erskine as John and Jane Smith, respectively.

In Season 1, two lonely strangers take on jobs with a mysterious spy agency offering all the best things in life which includes a brownstone that’s the envy of the neighborhood. For work, John and Jane are told to marry and as the pair begins taking on cases, their lives become deeply entwined leading to real feelings amid highly dangerous situations. Do they have what it takes to stay alive and stay together?

“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”

Sloane will return as showrunner for Season 2. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is produced by New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios. All 8 episodes are available to stream now via Prime Video.

Deadline recently sat down with Glover, Erskine and Sloane at Deadline’s Studio at Prime Experience who were very tight-lipped about the future of the show. Glover joked when asked about the status of a new season, “We don’t know but it really depends on whether or not we win an Emmy. If we win, we kind of have to do something, right?”

Maybe the TV Academy can nominate them anyway?
