‘Mozart In The Jungle’ Canceled After Four Seasons On Amazon
The song is over for Mozart in the Jungle. Amazon today canceled its symphonic dramedy after four seasons, Deadline has confirmed.
“We are so proud of the four seasons we made of this show and are grateful to the cast, crew, fans and Amazon for writing this symphony with us,” executive producers Paul Weitz, Will Graham, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman said iun a statement. “We hope people will keep finding the show for years to come.”
Starring Gael García Bernal, Lola Kirke, Saffron Burrows, Malcolm McDowell, Hannah Dunne and Bernadette Peters, Mozart in the Jungle drew back the curtain at the New York Symphony, where artistic dedication and creativity collide with mind games, politicking and survival instincts. It was based on the memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music by Blair Tindall.
The half-hour comedy-drama produced by Amazon Studios got Amazon seriously into the awards game, winning the 2016 Golden Globe for Best TV Series Musical or Comedy and being nominated again last year. It also won back-to-back Emmys for Sound Mixing in 2016 and 2017.
Amazon announced its pilot pickup for Mozart in October 2013, and the series launched in December 2014 with the logline: Mozart in the Jungle is all about sex, drugs — and classical music — and shows that what happens behind the curtains at the symphony can be just as captivating as what happens on stage.
