Move over, Travis Kelce. The Patriots have famous fans, too (plus Taylor Swift lives in RI)

Move over, Travis Kelce. You may have a huge fan in Taylor Swift, but the Patriots have their share of celebrity supporters, too. So do the Red Sox. (And Swift is a part-time Rhode Islander, anyway.)

What does it mean to have famous fans? Just ask Kelce, whose rumored paramour showed up at his game last week.

His jersey sales spiked 400 percent. He gained more than 250,000 Instagram followers. Sunday's telecast – during which Swift could be seen watching the game in the box with Kelce's mother – brought in 24.3 million total viewers, the most-watched NFL broadcast of the week on any network. Heinz even announced a new "Ketchup and Seemingly Ranch" product after Swift was spotted eating chicken nuggets with both condiments at the game.

And even though she hasn't confirmed that she will be attending the Chiefs upcoming game against the Jets, rumors of her appearance sparked an 18.5% increase in ticket prices, TicketSmarter told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. 

Take a look at some of the most well-known fans of the Patriots and the Red Sox.

Chris Evans

Sudbury, Massachusetts, native Chris Evans - known to many for his portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel movies – is not surprisingly a Patriots fan. In a 2020 interview with USAToday, he talked about his feelings about former Pats star quarterback Tom Brady leaving New England for Tampa Bay. “I could never begrudge Tom. He gave me 20 years of some of the best sports memories anyone could ever possibly ask for. … Tom Brady can do whatever he wants with his career. He's done more than enough for me.”

He is, obviously, also a well-known Boston Red Sox fan.

Mindy Kaling

Having grown up in Massachusetts (she’s an alum of Buckingham, Browne & Nichols school in Cambridge and Dartmouth College), Kaling is a Patriots fan. During the 2019 Super Bowl, she posted on X (formerly Twitter) that she was rooting for the Pats but her daughter was rooting for the L.A. Rams and her house was “in an upheaval.” Just this summer, Kaling was spotted catching a Red Sox game with fellow actor/comedian/writer and “The Office” co-star B.J. Novak, who himself is a native of Newton, Massachusetts.

B.J. Novak

See above! Novak was a high school classmate of fellow “Office” castmate John Krasinski and then went on to Harvard – of course New England sports are in his blood.

John Krasinksi

The Newton, Massachusetts, native - best known for his role as Jim Halpert on “The Office - once told TV host Ellen DeGeneres about an embarrassing situation that happened when he met former Pats star Tom Brady. He said he passed out. And in a widely panned Monday Night Football animated clip, Krasinski plugged coach Bill Belichick’s pursuit of the all-time wins record, and with an exaggerated Boston accent told viewers, “History could be made tonight. Don’t change ya clickah.” As for the Red Sox, Krasinski was photographed, back when he was in college, holding up a sign saying “What curse?” at a Red Sox playoff game before they broke “the Curse of the Bambino” and won the World Series in 2004.

Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg, a Massachusetts native who starred in the Boston marathon bombing film “Patriots Day,” and his brother, former New Kids on the Block singer Donnie, are New England sports die-hards. In fact, the family’s business, Wahlburgers, is the official burger of the Boston Red Sox. Mark is a big Pats fan, but his son may be an even bigger fan. He told Men’s Health magazine that he and his family had to leave the 2017 Super Bowl – in which New England made the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history with a win over the Falcons – early because his son was having a fit over the Patriots potentially losing. “He's a vicious sore loser,” he told the magazine.

Stephen King

Horror fiction writer King, a Maine resident, has been photographed at Red Sox games, but he’s also a Patriots fan. During the 2017 Super Bowl, he posted to X (formerly Twitter) “Patriots!! My boys!!!” after their incredible comeback win over the Falcons.

Ben Affleck

Having grown up in Cambridge, a couple blocks from his buddy and fellow actor Matt Damon, Affleck makes his affection for all things New England rather obvious. There have been memes made of him carrying Dunkin’ iced coffees, and he even stars in Dunkin’ TV commercials. He wears Red Sox and Patriots jackets. But in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel he explained that he may have “failed as a parent” because when he took his son to a Red Sox game once, and was hyping up the fact that “they” were from Boston, his son reminded him, “Dad, you are from Boston. I am from L.A.”

Matt Damon

Frequently spotted in a Red Sox cap, the Cambridge native speaks openly of his love for New England sports teams. In fact, he has discussed he and his father’s shared love for the Red Sox, and how his dad wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread at Fenway Park. And after the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2017, Damon crashed the set of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” dressed as Pats QB Tom Brady.

Aly Raisman

The Olympic gymnast is from Needham, so it should come as no surprise that she has the Patriots’ back. Back in 2016, fresh from a gold medal at the Rio Olympics, Raisman taunted her teammate Simone Biles, who is from Texas, on X (formerly Twitter), as the Patriots took on the Texans in Thursday night football. (For the record, the Pats shut out the Texans, 27-0.)

Steven Tyler

The Aerosmith lead singer, a resident of Marshfield, Massachusetts, has even performed a concert at Fenway Park, famously singing his hit “Dream On” from atop the Green Monster. Before the concert, he visited the Allston apartment where he and his bandmates lived in the 1970s. He has also performed the national anthem before Red Sox games and Patriots (before the AFC championship game in 2011, he wore a bedazzled Patriots scarf during the anthem).

Elton John

The crooner was among the guests – and performed – at Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s wedding in 2022, so it’s safe to say he’s a fan of the team. In fact, when the team played at Wembley Stadium in 2009, Kraft named John an honorary captain.

Jon Bon Jovi

He’s from New Jersey, but the rocker became friends with Bill Belichick back when he was with the Giants, and that friendship lasts to this day. He’s been photographed in the owner’s box at Patriots games, and his band’s song, “This is Our House” is the unofficial anthem of the team.
