Move Over Drake And Kendrick: Shaq Just Dropped His Own Diss Track!

Drake and Kendrick Lamar aren't the only ones dropping diss tracks at the moment.

Shaquille O'Neal recently released his own diss track directed at former NFL player Shannon Sharpe after the two exchanged some heated words.

It was only a matter of time before the trend of diss tracks reached the sports world. And who better to jump on the trend other than O'Neal who doubles as DJ Diesel in one of his many side careers?

O'Neal shared his diss track on Instagram with a caption that explained he's "now done with this."  His caption also tagged tons of people and podcasts, and concluded with, "You can never break the UNBreakable. And to all the people that know both of us, don't call me, it will never be a sit-down."

In the diss track, Sharpe says, "Shaq hates every big man. If you haven't noticed, he doesn't like the big man, rightfully so, because that's his position. In his mind, he is the apex predator."

After some more of Sharpe's thoughts, O'Neal jumped in and replied.

"I'm number one. Oh no, Shannon Sharpe, man, you're way beneath me," the NBA legend rapped. The track went on for about another 30 to 40 seconds before it cut off.

Comments From Instagram Followers Were A Mixed Bag Of Support For O'Neal And Siding With Shannon Sharpe

It didn't take long for people to hear the diss track and leave their thoughts about it and the beef between the two podcast hosts.

O'Neal's podcast, The Big Podcast with Shaq, dropped into the comments to write, "Biggest Podcast in the world."

One viewer wrote, "Shaq been WAITING to drop a diss track," to which O'Neal responded, "Yes I am and I got more in the chamber." (So that means he's far from done!)

And while none of us probably had O'Neal dropping a diss track amid beef with Sharpe on our 2024 bingo cards, here we are.

"2024 is one for the books," one Instagram viewer shared. Another added, "Shaq not gonna let Drake and Kendrick have all the fun."

So far, Sharpe has not released a diss track response of his own, but it's still early!

How Did We Get Here?

The war between O'Neal and Sharpe began earlier this week after the NBA legend shared his personal thoughts about Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic being awarded the NBA's MVP.

After congratulating Jokic on air, he blatantly told him that he felt Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was more deserving of the MVP title.

That's when people started debating whether or not O'Neal is right or if his approach wasn't cool. Many people felt he should have kept his opinion to himself at that moment.

Then Sharpe entered the chat, and loudly! During an episode of "The Nightcap" podcast, Sharpe called O'Neal "envious" and proceeded to say if "Shaq would've had my work ethic, he would have 40,000 points."

O'Neal shared a photo on Instagram that says, "'NFL 100 Greatest' ranks the top 100 characters in NFL history, and former Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens tight end Shannon Sharpe lands at No. 51."

If you think that was harsh, wait until you read the photo's caption.

"You took me sticking up @shai as jealousy of Joker. Shows how smart you are and how you say anything to get clicks. So here's some click-bait for you," O'Neal wrote in his Instagram caption. "If you ain't ranked in the top ten in your profession, then you can't speak on me. Don't forget I know what you did to get where you at. Me jealous, sounds like you jealous."

The caption continued, (it was quite lengthy), and shared more of O'Neal's heated thoughts.

"Four rings, three Finals MVP, top 50 and top 75. Google me. And to be quite frank, all this new success you got, you still under me," O'Neal continued. "You don't know my work ethic. But according, I work less than you but I'm worth more than you. Make it make sense."

After O'Neal shared another Instagram post on the topic, Sharpe replied on "The Nightcap" podcast and shared a clip on his Instagram page.

"I've never professed that I was as great as Shaq. But what I will say, I got what I got, because I worked my a-- off," Sharpe said in a clip shared on Instagram.

"My question is: Do you believe that you gave everything you possibly could in basketball? Did you train the way you should have? Did you eat the way you should have? He's the most dominant big man in the history of the game and he got one MVP. Yeah, you got more money, yeah, you're more famous than me, yeah, you're more well known. You're gonna have way more money than I ever have. But nobody will ever say that I was lazy or I cheated myself."

Sharpe's followers shared their thoughts on this situation in the comment section of the clip.

"The problem is you calling him envious or in essence jealous. Very similar to how Skip said you were jealous of Brady. It’s not cool to go there. Sometimes you have to just be quiet," one person wrote.

Another added, "First you called Shaq jealous. Then lazy. Why you trying to come for Shaq so hard Unc? Shaq is definitely one of the Goats and an icon. I don't understand coming for him because he thought like a lot of people, SGA deserves MVP."

Others defended Sharpe.

"Shannon didn't tell a lie. He gave Shaq credit for his God-given talent. Shaq admitted himself that he got lazy and could've won more chips and MVPs if he put in the work. Shannon was overlooked early in his career and always put the work in to get as far as he did."
