'Move to higher ground now': Another flash flood warning issued for Cameron Peak burn area

Update, 2:35 p.m. Aug. 14: Another flash flood warning is in effect for portions of Larimer County Sunday as thunderstorms continue to impact the Cameron Peak Fire burn area.

The latest warning includes Rustic and Red Feather Lakes, including gulches along Colorado Highway 14 near and above Rustic as well as the Poudre River, Pingree Hill, Goodell Corner and Bellaire Lake.

Between 0.4 and 0.6 inches of rain has already fallen in the warning area as of about 2:30 p.m.

Rain is expected to cause small creeks, streams and ditches to flash flood. Rock slides and debris flows across rural roads are also expected.

The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m.

Original story: A flash flood warning is in effect for central Larimer County, including portions of the Cameron Peak Fire burn scar, until 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

"If you're in the area of Miller Fork, The Retreat, Lookout Mountain, Crystal Mountain in the Cameron Peak burn scar, move to higher ground now! Heavy rain is impacting the area, and flash flooding is expected to begin shortly," the National Weather Service in Boulder warned in a tweet.

Thunderstorms have already produced up to an inch of rain in portions of the warning area as of about 12:20 p.m., according to the flash flood warning issued by the weather service.

That rain is expected to cause "extensive and severe flooding" as well as rock slides and debris flows within the Cameron Peak Fire burn area, including Miller Fork, Black Creek and The Retreat.

"Move to higher ground now," the warning stated. "Act quickly to protect your life. This is a life threatening situation!"
