Motorcycle rider dies in two-vehicle crash along Easy Street in SW Ocala

A two-vehicle crash along a busy roadway killed a motorcyclist and injured another person Tuesday night.

Ocala Police Department officers blocked Southwest 19th Avenue Road, known as Easy Street, by 24th Avenue not long after the crash so they could investigate. The crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. a few blocks from 24th Avenue.

Police officials said the victim was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for treatment, but later died at the facility.

How the crash happened

Authorities identified the victim as Jesus Bonilla, 29, of Ocala.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, an older model Ford F-150 pickup truck, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officials said.

His name was not revealed by officers, who said only that he was 25 and also of Ocala.

According to officials on scene, the truck was eastbound on Southwest 19th Avenue Road and entered the left turn lane to turn onto a driveway that leads to the Hollywood 16 movie theater, restaurants and shops.

The motorcycle rider was in inside westbound lane on the same roadway.

Officials said the two vehicles collided.

At the scene, the Suzuki motorcycle was underneath the vehicle. The speed limit on the roadway is 40 mph. The crash is under investigation.

The traffic fatality was the first of the year for the city of Ocala. In 2022, officers investigated 16 traffic deaths.
