The actor has publicly celebrated her daughter Ruby. This year, she shared an Instagram post, writing, "Love is love. A mother's love knows no judgment. As a mother, I stand in total solidarity with my children as they move forward in the universe as their authentic selves with their own minds and bodies and ideas. On this trans visibility day, my daughter and I are visible."
2.Eugene Levy
Eugene's son, Dan, told Entertainment Weekly how much he valued his father's support: "I've never had to prove myself, I've never had to explain myself. And that, I feel like, fundamentally is the support that every father needs to give their son. Particularly fathers and sons where the son is a gay or queer person."
3.Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
The couple have been very outspoken about their support for their daughter Zaya. Gabrielle told BuzzFeed, "It's important for us to live and love out loud. We didn't exactly understand why [supporting Zaya's trans identity] was a thing because it's like, we love all our kids out loud. As our children show up, it is our job to believe them when they tell us who they are and not impose our dreams, hopes, fears, and desires on them."
4.Busy Philipps
On an episode of the Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best podcast, the actor shared that her child Birdie is gay and uses they/them pronouns. Busy told them, "You get to build your life however the fuck you want to, and it doesn't have to look like anything you've ever seen or anything that's ever been modeled for you because maybe it doesn't exist. You get to choose what will make you feel fulfilled and happy. It doesn't have to be any of these constructs that we've all been fed our entire lives. This is a different world that you get to fucking build."
5.Sally Field
During an EW Radio town hall, she said her son Sam had difficulty accepting his identity as a gay man, but she encouraged him "to welcome himself and find that part of his life." She continued, "What horrifies me is that there are parents who so disapprove, who are so brainwashed to think that this is something out of the Bible or ungodly or against nature. It’s not against nature if nature has actually done this. Sam was always Sam, this wonderful human that he is, from the time he was born."
6.Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus
Billy Ray told E! News that his daughter Miley — who'd just come out as pansexual — had the family's support. "We've always been very open-minded. Listen, it's all about love and light. Forget the negativity and the haters. She's rocking and rolling and having a good time. What the world needs is love. There's too much hate. The world needs positive influences. ... Seeing her happy is the greatest thing ever."
7.Sade
Sade's son, Izaak, thanked his mom for her support during his transition. "Thank you for staying by my side these past 6 months Mumma. Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am. Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart. I love you so much. Queen of queens."
In 2018, the actor shared in an Instagram post that her son is trans: "I’m so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month. I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction."
Last month, he shared a sweet message for his child Kai, whose pronouns are he/they, on Instagram. "Daddy loves you to the moon and back. I’ve always asked people to love me unconditionally, thank you for teaching me what that really means. Be you! Your best you! You’re the gift, and I’m wrapping paper… love love love you for life. Excuse my ignorance, chalk it up to growth. Love you so much, thank you for making me a man. So proud 🌈."
She told the Daily Mail that her daughter Jackson "looked at [her] at 3 years old and said, 'I am not a boy!'" Charlize continued, "My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be. And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that."
On an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Magic said he loves his son EJ no matter what. "When my son came out, I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents. We love him. EJ is amazing. So you got to support your child, because there are so many people who try to discriminate against them, so they need you to support them. Because if you don’t support them, who is going to support them? And love them?"
12.Cher
She told CNN that "it wasn't easy" when her son Chaz started to transition. But she soon got over it, saying, "You have one child, but you don't really lose them — they just are in a different shape."
13.Ally Sheedy
During an interview with People magazine, she spoke about learning from her son, Beckett. "I want him to be able to do what he wants to do with his life and have the freedom to make his own choices and surround himself with a loving, supportive community. So far, he's been able to do that. As a parent, I've learned a lot. Beck doesn't hide anything. And I feel very comfortable talking to anyone whose kid is just beginning the process of transition. Parents need to educate themselves."
14.Karamo Brown
When Karamo's son Jason came out to him as pansexual, he was "a little hurt" that his son had been partially afraid to tell him. He was also unsure of what being pan would mean for his son. He told the Advocate, "I had to go on this journey quickly, really quickly, to educate myself and then to remember this is his journey. He can let me into his life when he wanted, and I had to do all the steps that I teach parents in a quick span so that I could then be there to support him and show him love and acceptance."
15.And finally: Barbra Streisand
During an interview with the Advocate, the singer gushed over her son, Jason. "I would never wish for my son to be anything but what he is. He is bright, kind, sensitive, caring, and a very conscientious and good person. I have truly been blessed. I have a wonderful son. My only wish is that he continues to experience a rich life of love, happiness, joy, and fulfillment, both creatively and personally."
