Princess Beatrice said becoming a stepmother to Wolfie, her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's son with Huang, was a "great honor"

Dara Huang's son is surrounded by love.

When Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, she became a stepmother to his son — Christopher Woolf, known by the nickname "Wolfie" — from his previous relationship with Huang. In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K., the Florida-born architect and designer shared her positive view on co-parenting with her ex and the royal.

"Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, 'The more, the merrier,' " Huang said. "I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him — because it didn’t have to be so easy."

"It's all about your point of view," she added. "I don't understand people who are divorced and then hold their children as collateral; that doesn't make any sense. It’s about creating a happy home and lifestyle."

After Princess Beatrice and Edo announced their engagement in 2019, Huang shared her congratulations to the couple. "I wish the best for Edo and Beatrice and look forward to uniting our families," she said in a statement.

Princess Beatrice, 35, became the first member of her generation of the British royal family to step into the role of a step-parent, and a source told PEOPLE in 2020 that she embraced the position from the start.

"Beatrice is a wonderful and very hands-on stepmom," the source said.

Wolfie, 8, has joined the royals for family events such as Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee Pageant in 2022, their annual walk to church on Christmas Day in 2022 and the Christmas concert hosted by Kate Middleton in 2023.

When Princess Beatrice and Edo announced the name of their daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, a few weeks after she was born in September 2021, they added that "Wolfie is the best big brother to Sienna."

In honor of World Book Day in 2021, Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter said reading played a big part of her life during COVID-19 lockdowns, and she shared that hobby with Wolfie.

"This year, I had the great honor to become a stepmother, and have had the most remarkable time going back over some of my most favorite stories at bedtime," Beatrice told the Evening Standard. "Together, we had such a special time reading through all the entries for Oscars Book Prize 2020."

She added, "My stepson has been, as many children have, home-schooling this term. Helping him to engage with stories is a great journey to inspire imagination, creativity, independence and humor. If you have not yet read the Oi Frog books by Kes Grey and Jim Field, they have fast become our favorite."
