Mother is mothering.

Don't f--- with Mama Sun.

Michelle Yeoh is the matriarch of a family of gangsters in the first action-packed trailer for The Brothers Sun, Netflix's upcoming action dramedy from creators Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu.

When the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad is shot by a masked assassin, his eldest son Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) travels from Taipei to Los Angeles to protect his mother Eileen (Yeoh) and younger brother Bruce (Sam Song Li), who has up until now been completely sheltered from the truth about his family.

A new rising faction emerges to go head-to-head for dominance, prompting Charles, Bruce, and their mother to heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what family truly means before their enemies kill them all.

In the first trailer released Thursday, Bruce struggles to come to terms with the family business ("I don't want to be a gangster!") as the formidable Eileen prepares for war.

Highdee Kuan, Joon Lee, Johnny Kou, Alice Hewkin, Jon Xue Zhang, Jenny Yang, Madison Hu, and Rodney To also star in the series, debuting Jan. 4 on Netflix.

The eight-episode series explores “what it means to be a son, what it means to be a brother, and also what it means to try and keep a family together,” Falchuk recently told Netflix's Tudum. “We do an extreme version of it because they’re a crime family and there are people shooting at them and trying to kill them, but the problems they’re having internally, the emotional problems are very, very universal.”
