Australia Is Hiring Backpackers to Help With Bushfire Recovery

Gary Henderson lies next to a young, injured kangaroo on Jan. 16. Henderson and his partner, Sara Tilling, are nursing the animal back to health in Cobargo, Australia. The pair used to run the Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary from their home, which was lost in a bushfire along with all their animals, and have only been able to rescue one kangaroo.

A kangaroo joey who is under the care of Wytaliba, Australia residents and wildlife carers Julie Willis and Gary Wilson. The couple is currently looking after 50-60 kangaroos.

The fires, which continue to burn, have charred millions of acres of land across the continent
