So, who is the most famous person from Tennessee?

With countless musicians and entertainers hailing from the Volunteer State, there is no shortage of possible answers.

But a new poll by famouspeople.io attempts to settle the debate.

Famouspeople.io conducted a survey evaluating more than 3,000 personalities from a variety of fields and performed metrics on characteristics like fame, like and dislike.

The data is based on a nationally representative survey of the U.S. population, where individuals were presented with famous individuals and asked to identify whether or not they were familiar with them. For purposes of this poll, the famous individuals are "from" the state where they were born.

Here are the most famous people from Tennessee, according to the famouspeople.io poll.

No. 1: Justin Timberlake

For Memphians, Justin Timberlake's No. 1 spot does not come as a surprise. Timberlake's rise to fame started when he debuted in NSYNC in the late 1990s. From there, he launched a successful solo career in 2002 and has continued to release music since. Timberlake, who was born Jan. 31, 1981, in Memphis, has also found success on the big screen, landing roles in the "Trolls" movie series, "Palmer," "The Social Network" and more.

No. 2: Morgan Freeman

Spot No. 2 goes to another Memphis native, Morgan Freeman, who was born on June 1, 1937, in the Bluff City. He has been working as an actor since the 1960s. With a resume full of hit movies, some of his most notable roles have been in “Million Dollar Baby,” “Driving Miss Daisy"The Shawshank Redemption," "Seven" and “Invictus.” Freeman won an Oscar for his supporting role in "Million Dollar Baby" in 2005.

No. 3: Dolly Parton

Most people around the nation know Dolly Parton for her country music. Tennesseans know her for much more — including her philanthropy work and the Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge. Parton, who as born on Jan. 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, has had 10 Grammy wins in her career that has spanned over 60 years. With countless career accolades, one of her more recent includes being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

No. 4: Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus landed the fourth spot on the list, following her godmother Dolly Parton. Cyrus, who was born on Nov. 23, 1992, in Franklin, found fame early on as the double-life-living lead on “Hannah Montana.” More recently, Cyrus is recognized for her music career. The lead track from her most recent album, "Flowers," charted globally over the summer and is still bouncing in and out of the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10.

No. 5: Megan Fox

The final Tennessean on the list is Megan Fox, who was born on May 16, 1986, in Oak Ridge. The actress's movie career includes roles in “Jennifer’s Body”, “Transformers” and “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.”
