The Most Dramatic Celebrity Transformations of the Past Decade

Wow, hard to believe we’ll be entering a new decade pretty soon! So much has changed these last ten years — ten years ago, we didn’t even have Instagram, an app that now more or less rules our lives. To celebrate the end of the 2010s, we took a look back at the most dramatic celebrity transformations of the decade. Settle in, because we’re about to seriously shock you with what these stars looked like ten years back.

But first: Let’s take a moment to appreciate everything the 2010s have brought us. We’ve had massive advancements in technology (hello, iPhone 11!), we collectively ditched the low-rise jeans and heavy eyeliner, and we watched our favorite celebs grow older, wiser, and more unafraid than ever. Another upside of entering the 2020s? With the rise of social media (a mixed bag, we know), we have more inside access to those celebs than ever before — meaning when they make a dramatic change to their look, we’re often the first to know.

So, ready to take a trip through time? Here are the most dramatic celeb transformations of the past decade.

Kylie Jenner

Out of all the celebs on this list, Kylie Jenner has had the most dramatic transformation. Ten years ago Kylie was 12, so obviously a lot has changed. She is now a mother to daughter Stormi Webster, is an aunt to eight kids, and a bona fide beauty mogul— Jenner has also become the youngest self-made billionaire ever. She’s also an Adidas ambassador, owner of both Kylie Cosmetics and the new Kylie Skin, and has 152 million Instagram followers. And we can’t deny her drastic physical transformation — as this beauty buff changes her look just about as often as she changes her makeup.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is unique on this list in that her career had only just started to take off at the beginning of the decade. After releasing her debut album Pink Friday, in 2010, Minaj quickly became one of the hottest musicians in the rap industry, with four studio albums and dozens of awards under her belt to date. She’s broken records (namely, when she had seven songs on the Billboard Top 100 simultaneously) and made history after becoming the first female rapper ever to have 14 songs land on the Billboard Top 10. As her career has evolved, so has Minaj’s look, as she’s ditched the more outrageous costumes in favor of a slightly more toned-down, fashion-forward look (well, most of the time, anyway). Ten years later, and Minaj is at the top of her game — and we can’t wait to see what the next ten years have in store for the “Superbass” singer.

Tom Hardy

English actor Tom Hardy made his international debut in 2010 with his role in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster thriller Inception, and he’s been at the top of his career ever since. In addition to a serious body transformation, the actor’s career has significantly taken off thanks to roles in hit films like The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road. Though his new look has brought with it bona fide heartthrob status, Hardy remains down-to-earth and relatively low-profile by megastar standards, preferring to live a quiet life with wife Charlotte, whom he married in 2014.

Iggy Azalea

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea made her US debut in 2014, with the release of her first album, The New Classic, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rap chart. Nearly everything that followed was a massive success: Her first single, “Fancy” (featuring Charlie XCX) became the longest-running #1 hit by a female rapper in Billboard chart history, the most-streamed song on Spotify in 2014, and iTunes “Best Song of 2014.” After a five-year-long hiatus, Azalea dropped her second studio album, In My Defense, this past summer, to mixed reviews. As for her appearance, well, it’s continually changing — and her Instagram is a good indicator of her current aesthetic, which is due to change (again) sometime soon.

James McAvoy

Scottish actor James McAvoy began his career as a television actor in the late ’90s, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that his acting career really started to take off, thanks to a string of successful film roles. Stateside, he’s best known for his role as Charles “Professor X” Xavier in the ultra-popular X-Men film franchise. A serious glow-up has accompanied McAvoy’s success in Hollywood, as the Scottish actor has slowly ditched his boyish good looks in favor of a more sophisticated (ahem, painfully handsome) aesthetic fitting for a leading man.

Chris Pratt

In 2010, Chris Pratt was known mostly as a comedic television actor, thanks to his role in the hit NBC sitcom Parks & Rec. It wasn’t until starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 that his status as an A-lister really began to take hold. Since then, Pratt has starred in several blockbuster films, including Jurassic World (2015), Passengers (2016) and The Magnificent Seven (2016); became a father (to six-year-old Jack, with ex-wife Anna Faris); and married a Schwarzenegger (Katherine, whom he wed this past summer after a year of dating). The leading man also ditched the boy-next-door aesthetic in favor of a more refined, grown-up look better suited to his monumental success. Pratt’s transformation is a glow up if we’ve ever seen one, and we have a feeling the next ten years will be just as transformative.

Calvin Harris

Scottish musician Calvin Harris has been in the music industry for a long time but became internationally known in 2017 after a brief and highly-publicized fling with pop star Taylor Swift. Though the 35-year-old started his career as an up-and-coming DJ in the early 2000s, he’s now best known for his songwriting and production and has famously worked with top musicians such as Rihanna. Over the past several years, Harris has replaced his casual streetwear duds with a more refined, fashionable look fitting of his Grammy Award-winning and Guinness World Record-breaking success, and he’s looking more handsome than ever.

Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner said it first, posting her own transformation photo on Instagram this January: “Now THAT is a #10YearChallenge,” she wrote. “Be authentic to yourself.” As far as transformations go, Caitlyn’s has undoubtedly been the most inspiring. Born Bruce Jenner in 1949, Caitlyn came out as transgender in 2015 during a 20/20 special with Diane Sawyer. Shortly after, she made her official debut as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair, shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. Though her transition wasn’t without its drama (Caitlyn reportedly hasn’t spoken to step-daughter Khloe in more than six years), the 70-year-old is living her best life as her “true self” — and that’s a transformation we can get behind.

Khloé Kardashian

Though Khloé Kardashian has starred alongside her family on the E! reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians since 2007, we’ve seen her become a star in her own right over these last ten years. The 35-year-old launched her denim brand, Good American, in 2016, welcomed daughter True with then-boyfriend Tristan Thompson in 2018, and created her own reality series, Revenge Body in 2017, inspired by her own weight loss and newfound confidence.
