If you thought 2023 was a stellar year for movies, just wait until you see what 2024 has to offer. Netflix will attempt to dazzle audiences in the new year with Daniel Levy's heartbreaking Good Grief, Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon—Part Two: The Scargiver, Adam Sandler's Spaceman, and Eddie Murphy's long-awaited return as Axel Foley in the fourth Beverly Hills Cop entry. Plus, we should see Richard Linklater's much-anticipated action-comedy, Hit Man, as well as Jerry Seinfeld's Pop-Tarts movie before the end of the year. (Yes, you read that correctly: Jerry Seinfeld's Pop-Tarts movie.)

Good Grief

Release date: January 5, 2024

Written by, directed, and starring Daniel Levy, Good Grief might just empty your box of tissues. (It's in the name!) The film follows a man who is grieving the loss of his husband. Turns out, he left behind a mess that needs to be sorted out on a soul-searching trip to Paris. Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel co-star in the film.

Orion and the Dark

Release date: February 2, 2024

From the studio that brought you How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks' latest animated picture is a Monsters Inc.-esque exploration of children's fears, written by—wait for it—Charlie Kaufman. Titled Orion and the Dark, the story follows a young boy named Orion who is whisked away in the night by his greatest fear: Darkness.

In 2024, we'll see a quick follow-up to Zack Snyder's sci-fi/fantasy epic, Rebel Moon. The next entry is titled Rebel Moon—Part Two: The Scargiver, and it promises to finish its Star Wars-esque adventure with a massive battle of heroes and villains. The biggest question, though, is this: When will we get the Snyder Cut?!

Eddie Murphy returns to the role of Axel Foley in this fourth entry in the Beverly Hills Cop series. The latest entry seemingly includes more action than ever before—welcome to 21st-century CGI, Axel!—with many characters from the original trilogy returning as well. Cue the Beverly Hills Cop theme.

Hit Man

Directed by Richard Linklater, Hit Man follows the true story of a strait-laced professor who becomes a fake hit man to help aid the police in an investigation. The film stars the ever-charismatic Glen Powell—and it was a critical darling at 2023's Venice Film Festival.

The Piano Lesson

Release date: TBA 2024

Announced this past summer, a film adaptation of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson is on its way to Netflix, starring Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Danielle Deadwyler, and Erykah Badu. The story follows a struggling Pittsburgh family right after the Great Depression ends in 1936.

Spaceman

Release date: TBA 2024

Adam Sandler follow up his dramatic successes in Uncut Gems and Hustle with Spaceman, Swedish director Johan Renck's sci-fi film about longing and loss. Sandler's astronaut is also set to meet a mysterious time-bending creature voiced by Paul Dano.

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story

Release date: TBA 2024

At long last, the film we've all been waiting for: Jerry Seinfeld is directing and starring in a comedy about the origin of Pop-Tarts. The movie will star an incredible cast of Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Bobby Moynihan, Christian Slater, and Amy Schumer. Unfrosted is set back in 1963, according to Netflix, just a year before Seinfeld's favorite treat makes its way to grocery stores.
