'Mortal Kombat 2' Has an Official 2025 Release Date

Mortal Kombat 2 officially has a release date. Warner Bros. has announced that it is aiming for the Fall 2025 season for an IMAX release of the New Line sequel. Initially announced in 2022, the upcoming film is slated to have Jeremy Slater as the writer. Slater has been best known for Disney+ Marvel series, Moon Knight.

Simon McQuoid returns to direct the sequel and the cast sees familiar and new faces that include Chin Han, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada star with Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Damon Herriman, Tati Gabrielle and Martyn Ford.

The franchise has been a martial arts-inspired adaptation of the popular video game by the same name. The original film opened in theaters on April 2021 to make $83 million USD globally. At the time, Variety interviewed director McQuoid who said that he would be interested in a sequel. Now that it is confirmed to be true, fans can expect Mortal Kombat 2 to arrive in IMAX on October 24, 2025. Stay tuned for more information about the release leading up to the premiere date.
