Morrissey slams Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith
Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith might have plenty of fans, but there’s one notable musician who doesn’t count himself among them: Morrissey.
The former Smiths frontman lamented the lack of “surprise success stories” in a recent email interview with Boulder Weekly, and mentioned Sheeran and Smith as examples of how he identifies new music. “It’s very rare that a record label does something for the good of music,” he said. “Thus we are force-fed such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, which at least means that things can’t possibly get any worse.”
He went on to say that the whole situation is “sad”: “There’s no spontaneity now,” he said, “and it all seems to be unsalvageable.” Read the whole interview — where he also talks about his vegetarianism and how he was bullied in school — at Boulder Weekly.
