Morgan Freeman Channels ‘Shawshank’ Character in Hilarious ‘Graham Norton Show’ Narration (Video)

Morgan Freeman has lent his voice to many films and TV series during his career, but his narration of the iconic film “The Shawshank Redemption” put him on the map as one of the greatest film narrators of all time.

That’s why Graham Norton asked the 79-year-old actor to narrate a “Shawshank” mash-up during his show on Friday night, on which Freeman appeared with his “Going in Style” costar Michael Caine.

After some hesitation, the actor, who has been said to have one of the greatest voices of all time, agreed — and it quickly turned into a hilarious bit.

“I must admit, I didn’t think much of Graham Norton the first time I laid eyes on him,” Freeman said while staring deeply into the camera. “Looked like a stiff breeze could blow him over. That was my first impression of the man. I could see why some people took him for annoying. He had a walk and a talk that just wasn’t normal around here. And boy did he drink. He drank like a man without a care or worry in the world. I hope to finish this talk show one day. I hope Michael [Caine] stops talking for just one second. I hope people stop asking me to do stupid voiceovers like this. I hope.”

“The Shawshank Redemption” was directed by Frank Darabont and also starred Tim Robbins. Based on a book by Stephen King, it was released in 1994 and told the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover.
