Check Evergy’s outage map to see which KC areas are without power from Friday’s storm
A severe thunderstorm swept through much of the Kansas City metro on Friday afternoon, causing flash flooding and tens of thousands of households to lose power. As of 4:50 p.m., more than 150,000 Evergy customers were without electricity, according to the company’s outage map.
The utility company said it may take multiple days to fully restore power, especially in the areas with the most serious damage.
Evergy’s outage map includes live updates on outages across the company’s service area. If you click the “X” at the top of the box that says “July 14 Update,” you can then zoom in on different areas and see the number of outages in real time.

The storm moved in from the west Friday afternoon, bringing with it strong winds, heavy rains and lightning. It had the potential to produce wind gusts of 70 mph and quarter-sized hail, according to the National Weather Service.
With such a widespread area affected, Evergy said crews are out, but they aren’t able to determine how long it will take to turn individual households’ power back on.
“We expect restoration in the areas most severely impacted to be a multiday restoration effort. In events with widespread outages, individual estimated restoration times are not available,” the company shared in a statement to customers.
With widespread outages and outage events, we will have delayed restoration estimates and will not have all customers restored this evening. Evergy crews will be working to restore power for impacted customers as safely as possible.

According to Evergy’s website restoring power will be delayed due to the storm, which is expected to impact Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee, Lenexa, Leavenworth, Gardner, Lansing, Bonner Springs, De Soto, Paola, Spring Hill, Tonganoxie, Basehor, Edwardsville, Edgerton, Lake Quivira, and Linwood.
