Mora Makes 2024 Viña del Mar Debut & Is Honored With Golden & Silver Gaviotas

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Mora made his Viña del Mar debut on Wednesday (Feb. 28), and was honored with Golden and Silver Gaviota Awards for his performance at Chile’s Quinta Vergara.

At the 63rd edition of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, Mora’s setlist included some of his biggest hits, such as “512”, “Volando Remix”, “Tuyo” and “Donde Se Aprende A Querer,” plus songs from his latest album, Estrella. The “monster” — as the audience in Viña is referred to — found Mora’s songs about heartbreak and love relatable, was bursting with euphoria with each song.

“Thanks for everything, really. From the beginning, the love that this country gave me is simply incomparable,” Mora said just after receiving his first Gaviota award. “Thanks again, Chile, and all of Latin America that is watching me. I think being at Viña is the dream for anyone. I love being able to share this moment with all of you and with my family, who came with me.”

Mora also shared a special message to those in the country affected by the fires in early February that left more than 120 people dead. “I really wanted to come here, and although many people told me not to come after what was going on with the fires, I felt that it was more necessary to be here finally and contribute my grain of sand,” he shared. “I dedicate this Gaviota to all those who suffered and had to deal with this situation.”

Anitta also performed on Wednesday, displaying Brazilian pride throughout her riveting set. The trilingual star twerked, got emotional and delivered a favela funk party at the Quinta Vergara, where she received the Silver Gaviota. “Since I started singing in Spanish, I knew about this festival and my dream since was to sing here,” the “Envolver” singer said onstage. “So I am very happy to be here, I thank you very much, for so much love. From Brazil to Chile.”

Mora and Anitta’s performances followed Maná and Men at Work’s respective sets on Tuesday (Feb. 27). Thursday (Feb. 29) will be devoted to Chilean artists with Los Bunkers and Young Cister taking the stage, and for the finale on March 1, Argentine artists Maria Becerra and Trueno will perform.
