Moonlight has been named film of the year by the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association, which is comprised of more than 170 film and TV critics and entertainment journalists across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. and which announced the winners of its annual Dorian Awards on Thursday.

The coming-of-age drama also was voted best LGBTQ Film of the Year and won awards for Barry Jenkins for his direction and screenplay. Mahershala Ali was tapped as best actor, while Trevante Rhodes, who plays the adult version of the film's main character, was voted the "We're Wilde About You!" Rising Star Award, named after playwright Oscar Wilde.

Viola Davis earned a best actress citation for her work in Fences.

La La Land was singled out as Visually Striking Film of the Year, while The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet, was hailed as Campy Flick of the Year.

In the TV categories, FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was chosen Drama of the Year and its co-star Sarah Paulson took TV actress honors for her performance as prosecutor Marcia Clark. For the third year in a row, Amazon's Transparent won for Comedy of the Year, best LGBTQ Comedy and best actor Jeffrey Tambor.

TBS' new show Full Frontal With Samantha Bee received a Doran Award for Current Affairs Show of the Year. Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda tied for the Wilde Artist of the Year Award. And Carrie Fisher was posthumously honored as Wilde Wit.

As previously announced, GALECA is presenting its Timeless Star Award to writer/director John Waters.

The group will hold its annual Winners Toast, celebrating a select group of 2016-17 honorees, on Feb. 18 in the Maharaja Room at The Pikey Cafe and Bar in Hollywood.
