Monster Movie from ‘Scream’ Directors Gets Title, Trailer

A monster movie from Scream team Radio Silence is coming into focus. Universal revealed Thursday that the feature is titled Abigail, and also shared the first trailer. It will open in theaters April 19.

The studio also revealed the first logline: “After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.”

Sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the child is the daughter of Dracula.

Radio Silence, a group which includes directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, broke out with the horror feature Ready or Not and went on to direct Scream, which revived the franchise in 2022. They followed it up with Scream VI, which last year became the highest grossing installment in the franchise’s history.

Their Scream star Melissa Barrera is among the cast of Abigail. The actor in recent months was fired from Scream VII by producer Spyglass over social media posts amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Other stars include Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand and the late ac tor Angus Cloud, who died in July. They will star as the kidnappers, while Alisha Weir stars as Abigail.

Stephen Shields and Guy Busick penned the script. The film is produced by William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt for Project X Entertainment. Tripp Vinson and by Radio Silence’s Chad Vilella also produce.
