‘Monster High: The Movie’ Sequel Set at Nickelodeon, Paramount+

Nickelodeon and Mattel Television have greenlit a sequel to “Monster High: The Movie,” which will begin production in Vancouver, Canada, in January. The live-action movie musical, based on the toy company’s doll collection of the same name, will air on Nickelodeon and stream on Paramount+ in 2023.

The first live-action movie for the franchise, “Monster High: The Movie” premiered on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ on Oct. 6, 2022. According to the streamer, it was the No. 1 kids and family movie on Paramount+ during its launch week and reached more than 4 million total viewers across its premiere weekend on linear (Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nicktoons and TeenNick).

“We are ecstatic to tell the monstrous next chapter of this beloved franchise to our audience,” Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, co-heads of Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Live-Action, said in a statement. “Monster High’s message of embracing one’s unique self is as important as ever and we look forward to expanding the stories of these fan-favorite characters.”

“Monster High: The Movie” follows Clawdeen Wolf (Miia Harris) as she arrives at Monster High with a dark secret. With the help of her friends Draculaura (Nayah Damasen) and Frankie Stein (Ceci Balagot), she is able to “embrace her true monster heart and save the school from total destruction.”

Todd Holland (“Malcolm in the Middle”) will return as director and executive producer. Fred Soulie, senior vice president and general manager of Mattel Television; Phil Breman, VP of live action development at Mattel; and Adam Bonnett (“Descendants”) will also return as executive producers. The sequel is being penned by “Teen Beach 2” scribes Matt & Billy Eddy, from a story by the duo and Holland.

Back in 2021, Nickelodeon also announced a new “Monster High” animated TV series, which is slated for premiere on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on the channel.

Mattel first introduced its Monster High line in 2010. Several animated specials and straight-to-DVD movies were created over the past decade, most of which got airtime on Nickelodeon.
