Touring isn’t just about the exposure for Monsieur Periné; it’s also an opportunity to connect with artists for possible collaborations on their upcoming album.

In the midst of composing and finishing the track list for the new record, the Colombian, Latin Grammy-winning trio will kick off their U.S. tour March 22, making stops in Chicago, New York and Washington.

“The way we look at it is that we’re going on tour with the mentality of meeting other friends or artists whom we want to collaborate or compose with for the new album,” lead vocalist Catalina García tells Billboard.

While some “meet-ups” are planned ahead, others happen spontaneously. “It’s something new we’re trying, and we’re trying to be more experimental.”

In their last two albums, Hecho a Mano and the Latin Grammy-nominated Caja de Música LP, Monsieur didn’t include many collabs. This time around, they’re hoping to work with other songwriters.

“We want to have a different experience with this album, and that’s why we have to travel to places like Miami or Mexico, to work with other songwriters. It’s been very interesting and we’re looking forward to hear what the fusion of sounds and songs will be like.”

So far, they’ve partnered with Mexican singer/songwriters Julieta Venegas and Sin Bandera‘s Leonel García. “Julieta and I have a singing teacher in common and she introduced us. She’s an incredible artist and I’ve admired her for so long. I’ve listened to her since I was very little and she’s always had a strong presence in my life. There’s a song that I had written and that I love so much but hadn’t been able to do anything with it. I played it for her, she loved it and we finished composing it in one hour.”

Recording with García was a “beautiful thing,” Catalina gushes. “I love that he supports young artists and you have no idea how knowledgeable he is about music. It fills me with happiness to think that a man like him, who has a long trajectory and is probably so busy with his own music and tour, would make time for us.”
