Monroe actor stars in indie horror film ‘Beneath Us All’

Artist and actor Michael James Alexander is still on cloud nine after last month’s red carpet premiere of his latest movie, “Beneath Us All.”

Filmed in northern Michigan, Alexander said in an email message, “It’s a story about the relationship of kids at a dysfunctional foster home, and the relationship between a young teenage girl and a vampire, so you have part vampire flick crossed with family drama. It’s very cool.”

In the independent horror movie, Alexander plays the role of “Manny,” the owner of an underground casino.

The film is directed by Harley Wallen and produced by Westside Warrior Films, Alexander’s company, along with Painted Creek Productions.

“The movie’s doing great. Streaming right now on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu,” Alexander said. “I enjoyed the way the children interacted with each other, and how we created all the characters for the casino I run and my interactions with Hollywood star Sean Whalen in the film.”

Also scheduled to release before Halloween is the movie, “Lester.” Alexander will be the chief of police.

Next month, Alexander will be making another film based on a true story. This time, he’ll be working with Kevin Sorbo.

“I just did a role in the 'Street Legal' TV series on Tubi Episode 8 as the judge,” Alexander added.

“And I'm really excited about my role in the movie, ‘Finding Nicole,’ starring Richard Tyson and Sean Whalen among others.”

Alexander’s first television appearance was in the early 1980s on a dance show and he did some commercial work. When Alexander is not acting, the Monroe resident can be found creating in his downtown studio, 27 W. Front St. He specializes in custom jewelry design and watch repair along with commissioned art. The studio has jewelry showcases and an art gallery displaying some of Alexander’s favorite art pieces.
