Monks Outside US Embassy Condemn Military Takeover in Latest Yangon Protests

A group of Buddhist monks stood outside the US embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, behind banners condemning the military takeover of the country as protests continued on February 13.

Protests were reported in a number of Myanmar cities and towns.

Unconfirmed local reports said hundreds of thousands of people were taking part in Saturday’s protests, which took place on the anniversary of the birthday of Bogyoke Aung San, a hero of Burmese independence from British rule and the father of Aung San Suu Kyi, the detained current-day leader of the National League for Democracy.
