‘Monday Night Football’ Ratings Rise, ‘Voice’ Tops Big 4 On NFL Inflated Night
There are a couple of days to go, but America already seems to be tucking into the holiday mode — if most of the television ratings are any indication.
Last night saw a pretty steady outcome on the Big 4 with The Voice (2.1/7) again topping the night as the competition show heads toward its Season 11 finale on December 14. Dipping 9% among adults 18-49 from its November 14 show, The Voice pushed NBC to another demo victory with a 1.8/6 rating overall. Newbie Timeless (1.2/4) even with last week.
Not even with last week by a hair was the result for Monday Night Football as the Oakland Raiders’ 27-20 win over the Houston Texans scored an 8.1 metered market rating for ESPN. The 8:15-11:58 PM ET game in Mexico City was up a slight 3% over last week – but in a season that has seen the NFL taking ratings hits on all outlets, a win is still a win and maybe even a little bit more going into a football-heavy Thanksgiving. A cable and broadcast win is also what is in the cards for the Disney-owned sports giant with MNF’s performance.
BTW, for you stat-heads: MNF peaked with a 9.2 MM rating in the 9:45-10 PM period. Look it up and you’ll see why.
Last night’s game — the first Monday nighter played outside the U.S. — also had a spill-over effect on ABC and the CW as both nets pre-empted for the Raiders-Texans matchup on their respective Bay Area and Houston affiliates\. Which, on the second-to-last night of Dancing With the Stars’ (1.8/6) latest season, throws unadjusted results for both into the tentative column for now.
As it is, DWTS is up a tenth from last week for what is its best Monday performance since its Season 23 debut on September 12. Lead-out Conviction (0.8/3) was the same as its November 14 airing.
If there was any big moves this week, it was on the CW, but that might be just the football talking. A week before the big crossover episodes hit, Supergirl (1.0/3) was up 25% last week from its fast-affiliate results of last week – which also saw an NFL pre-emption and went down a tenth in the final numbers. Jane the Virgin (0.6/2) is up a tenth from last week’s early numbers and up 100% from the downward adjustment of the fast nationals.
Without an NFL game last night, CBS saw Kevin Can Wait (1.5/5) go down a tenth, as did Fox’s Gotham (1.1/4) and Lucifer (1.0/3). Man With a Plan (1.3/5) and Scorpion (1.2/4) were even with last week, but 2 Broke Girls (1.4/5) and The Odd Couple (1.1/4) were up a tenth – like I say, a steady(ish) night.
