There are monsters among us.

On Friday, Apple debuted the first trailer for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” the new 10-episode series that expands the so-called “Monsterverse” collection of films that includes “Godzilla” (2014), “Kong: Skull Island” (2017), and “Godzilla vs. Kong” (2021).

In a statement, executive producers Matt Shakman, Joby Harold, and Tory Tunnel said, “Over the last few years, we feel fortunate to have been able to work on a show that allowed us to embrace the scope and mythology of Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

They added, “Through 10 hours of character-driven television, our show explores the question of who the true monsters are in a world of coexistence with Titans. While at the same time taking us on a globetrotting adventure that will hopefully keep the audience as entertained as they are emotionally engaged.”

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, both of whom play the same character 50 years apart. Here’s the logline from Apple:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army Officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

The trailer, which seemingly features production values ripped out of a feature film, includes glimpses of the show’s cast, including the lead stars, Kiersey Clemons, and John Goodman, who first appeared in this franchise in “Kong: Skull Island.” (His character, Bill Randa, was the leader of Monarch in the ‘70s and died in the 2017 film.)

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” premieres on November 17 with two episodes. New episodes follow weekly until January 12, 2024.
