Mom Of Severely Overweight Woman Explains Why Limiting Her Daughter’s Food Intake As A Child Didn’t Work

At nearly 500 lbs., Jenny says she has been obese her entire life, feels like a “prisoner” in her own body, and is now disabled because of her weight. Her mother, Sherry, says she was overweight as a child and didn’t want Jenny to go through that growing up. “I wanted to save her from that, so yes, at a very young age, I did start to limit her food,” says Sherry. “I know now that it doesn’t work. It didn’t work with me; it didn’t work with Jenny. I still don’t know how to help her.” Jenny says she doesn’t blame her mother. “I really gained a lot (of weight) when I left her house because I was like, ‘now I can eat whatever I want,’ and I went a little crazy.” Jenny says she’s been working to try to lose 100 lbs. so that she can qualify for weight-loss surgery. She says that after two years, she has shed only around 25 lbs. and has given up. On Monday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “The Psychological Weight of Obesity,” fitness expert and author Brooke Burke steps up to help. Dr. Phil airs Monday-Friday.
