Mom Dies After Being Hit by Tire While Driving Kids to Amusement Park: 'Lost a Soulmate,' Says Fiancé

A Virginia woman died over the weekend after her car was struck by a tire while she was traveling to an amusement park with her family.

Virginia State Police said the tire came off a 2017 Jeep Renegade while traveling westbound on Interstate 64 in York County around noon local time, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch and ABC affiliate WVEC.

The tire subsequently hit the family’s 2005 Ford Explorer, which was traveling in the opposite direction on the highway.

The family was headed to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for the park’s Howl-O-Scream event, according to WVEC and CBS affiliate WTVR.

Joseph Palumbo, Parsons' fiancé, told WVEC that he and Parsons moved to Williamsburg together six months ago, having dated for 10 years.

“She is by far the best, best woman I’ve ever met in my life,” Palumbo told WTVR. "I lost a soulmate."

In addition to her children, Parsons was “very” involved with her grandchildren, as well as the Williamsburg Hornets cheer and football squads,” according to a GoFundMe campaign for her family.

“She was always at their games cheering for the team,” the organizer wrote in the description of the fundraiser, which has raised more than $4,000 in donations as of Thursday afternoon.

Parsons had a big heart. Palumbo said she stood by him after he had a medical emergency at work more than a year ago, according to WVEC.

“She stayed by my side the entire time I was in the hospital, and when I woke up, she was there,” her fiancé recalled. “She never left.”

An investigation into Sunday’s crash is ongoing.
