Then and Now: 7 Former Teen Stars Playing TV Parents Today
Thirty years after she played teen birthday queen Samantha Baker in John Hughes’s Sixteen Candles, Molly Ringwald is making her debut on The CW’s teen drama Riverdale — as a mom. Ringwald plays Mary Andrews, the estranged mom of teenaged Archie, and she’s not the only former teen star who’s adulting on the series.
Luke Perry, who spent the 1990s playing high school hunk Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90210, plays Archie’s father, Fred, on the show, and Scream alum Skeet Ulrich is Jughead’s dad. Feeling old yet?
Of course, the Riverdale adults are in good company when it comes to primetime parenthood. Teen good girl Reese Witherspoon (remember her sweet and innocent act in Cruel Intentions?) plays a mom now on HBO’s Big Little Lies — and an F-bomb dropping one, at that.
Even ‘90s teen queen Mandy Moore is a TV mom now — of 36 year olds! OK, that one comes courtesy of prosthetic makeup and some flashbacks/forwards, but at least her This is Us husband Milo Ventimiglia (aka Jess on Gilmore Girls) will stay forever young. Relatively.
