‘Molli And Max In The Future,’ Sci-Fi Rom-Com Starring Zosia Mamet & Aristotle Athari, Picked Up By Level 33 Entertainment

EXCLUSIVE: Molli and Max in the Future, the sci-fi rom-com starring Girls‘ Zosia Mamet and SNL‘s Aristotle Athari that has drawn praise in its run at festivals including SXSW, has been picked up for North American distribution and international sales by Level 33 Entertainment.

Marking the feature directorial debut of Michael Lukk Litwak, who also wrote the script, the film will be released exclusively in 100+ theaters across the country in early 2024 and subsequently across all digital platforms. International sales will commence during the 2023 American Film Market, which kicks off in Santa Monica October 31st.

Set to screen this month at the BFI and Sitges Film Festivals, Molli and Max tells the story of a man and woman whose orbits repeatedly collide over the course of 12 years, four planets, three dimensions, and one space-cult. In addition to Litwak, producers on the pic included Ben J. Murphy, Candice Kuwahara, Mallory Schwartz, and Kate Geller, who also served as casting director. Mamet and Athari exec produced alongside Ted Geoghegan, Luke Murphy, Nicole Murphy, and Jeanne Elfant Festa.

Said Litwak in a statement to Deadline, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Level 33 for North American distribution and international sales, a company that understands what makes our film special and is committed to giving it the thought and attention it deserves. Thousands of hours of love were poured into making Molli and Max in the Future, a unique, handcrafted film and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Prior to Molli and Max, Litwak grabbed attention with the award-winning shorts The Life and Death of Tommy Chaos and Stacey Danger and Alpha Squadron. He’s also previously written and directed narrative projects for Sony and Warner Bros, while working as a comedic commercial director for a variety of worldwide brands and agencies.

The deal for his first feature was negotiated by Ben J. Murphy of Whiskey Bear Productions on behalf of the filmmakers, and Olavarria on behalf of Level 33.
