To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their commercial breakthrough Good News for People Who Love Bad News, Modest Mouse are prepping a special reissue featuring several previously unreleased recordings.

Good News For People Who Love Bad News: 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition will be released digitally April 5, with eight additional remix tracks, the majority of which are totally new. The remixes come from artists like MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden (“The View”), Jackknife Lee (“Bury Me With It”), Dan the Automator (“Float On”), and Justin Raisen (“The Good Times Are Killing Me”).

Modest Mouse are previewing the set with a remix of “Ocean Breathes Salty” by the L.A.-based duo Poolside.

The band has also finally made available the music video for “The World At Large/Stiff Animal Fantasy,” which Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock co-directed with Jason Foster. The clip was previously only available on a version of Good News released on DualDisc, an extremely mid-2000s thing that featured a CD on one side and a DVD on the other.

Along with the digital release, Modest Mouse will share a special double LP version of Good News remastered for vinyl. Out May 17, the set will be pressed on opaque baby pink and spring green vinyl, feature an alternative album cover, and come with an eight-page booklet. Five of the new remixes will be included on the vinyl release.

Good News for People Who Love Bad News was originally released April 6, 2004. At the time, Modest Mouse were already in the alt and indie rock pantheons thanks to albums like The Lonesome Crowded West  and The Moon & Antarctica. But Good Newslead single “Float On” became a unexpected crossover hit, reaching as high as Number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helping Good News sell over a million copies (it was just certified two-times platinum, with two million sales, this month).

Along with celebrating the 20th anniversary of Good News for People Who Love Bad News, Modest Mouse will hit the road this spring on a North American tour with Pixies and Cat Power. The trek kicks off May 31 in Charleston, South Carolina and wraps June 30 in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
