SHIPSHEWANA — Carl Palmer brings his “Welcome Back My Friends: The Return of Emerson Lake & Palmer 2023 Fall Tour” to the Blue Gate Performing Arts Center for a concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at 760 S. Van Buren St.

Presented with the full cooperation of the estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, the show uses modern technology to allow the drummer to play with his two bandmates, both of whom died in 2016.

It combines Emerson and Lake on giant video walls performing live from a 1992 Royal Albert Hall show along with Palmer and two side musicians who are live on the stage, all of them playing together.

Keith Emerson of The Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster formed Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1970 and quickly established the band as one of the most critically acclaimed and popular progressive rock bands of the decade.

The band’s repertoire featured rock arrangements of several classical works, including Aaron Copland’s “Hoedown” and “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Béla Bartók’s Allegro Barbaro, and Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

Original songs that became staples of FM radio included the three-part “Karn Evil 9,” “Lucky Man” and “Still … You Turn Me On,” among others.

Palmer, who was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the 10 Greatest Drummers of All Time, also is a founding member of Asia.
