'Modern Family' Sneak Peek: Jay Plays Gay for a Day

You can call this a sub flub. On the upcoming episode of Modern Family, Jay (Ed O’Neill) agrees to be a sub for Cameron’s (Eric Stonestreet) bowling team, but his son-in-law forgets to tell him one important detail: It’s an all-gay league.

We’ve got an exclusive sneak peek from the episode “Knock ’Em Down,” which has Cam telling Jay: “You have to be gay to play.” And that means Jay has to “pretend to be all-gay,” something the Pritchett patriarch doesn’t think he can do.

While Cam gives his father-in-law a rundown on the various types of gay men (Broadway gays, gym gays, twinks, bears, “hey girl” gays… and if you want to know what an otter is, check out the guy in lane 20), a skeptical Jay says there’s no way anyone will believe that he’s an “average Joe” gay. But Cam assures him: “Just be yourself. You’re gay enough.”

Check out the video for the hilarious exchange, which is capped off by Cam’s catty run-in with his nemesis (guest star Oliver Platt) from the opposing team.

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
