'Modern Family' grows with shocking pregnancy announcement

Wednesday’s Modern Family ended on a bombshell: Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) is pregnant.

Her condition was discovered when Haley was admitted to the hospital with a tube of lipstick shoved up her nose — long story. The doctor told Haley and her boyfriend Dylan (Reid Ewing) that the hospital ran a blood test that confirmed Haley is pregnant.

While the characters on the show were taken aback, many fans saw the pregnancy coming. There had been speculation circulating for a few weeks, since Haley had been acting oddly throughout the season and the writers seemed to focus on her strange eating habits.

Several hours before the show aired, Hyland stoked the pregnancy rumors by tweeting, “Buckle up for tonight’s brand new episode of abcmodernfam guys. It’s gonna be a BUMPY ride!”

Since Haley’s recent love life has been complicated, there is a chance that Dylan is not the father. So it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. And while no one is sure what to expect, I think we can all agree that Phil Dunphy is gonna be an awesome grandfather.

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
