MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra is looking to close the season on a high note next month.

Traffic stop leads to man being arrested on drug charges, says Mobile Police

MSYO will showcase student musicians across three states and 18 schools in its season finale on Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre, under the direction of international director Dr. Iván del Prado.

The concert will include works from Modest Mussorgsky, Carl Maria von Weber, Alexander, Borodin and Mexican composer Arturo Marquez.

Youth orchestra concerto competition winner Addison Vontroba will also be featured with a performance on the clarinet.

“The Concerto Competition is an opportunity for outstanding high school musicians to earn the privilege of performing as a featured soloist with a full orchestra,” the release said. “Winners are selected by a panel of professional musicians not affiliated with the MSYO.”

Vontroba, who attends Fairhope High School, is the principal clarinet in the MSYO and the principal clarinet in her school’s wind ensemble. She’s been selected for every all-state honor band and top-state band since she entered high school.

She will perform the Concertino for Clarinet No. 1 by Carl Maria von Weber with the orchestra.

The season finale will also recognize all of the student musicians’ accomplishments.

“Since the MSYO is comprised of the best student musicians in the region, our concerto competition is particularly rigorous,” Mobile Symphony President and CEO Celia Mann Baehr said. “We are pleased to offer this unique learning opportunity. We are proud of them all!”
