‘Moana’ Star Auli’i Cravalho Reveals Details About New TV Pilot ‘Drama High’

Less than 24 hours after her amazing Oscars performance, Moana star Auli’i Cravalho is making her way to television.

The adorable 16-year-old breakout performer has been tapped to star in NBC’s Drama High, from Friday Night Lights executive producer/showrunner Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller, producer of the smash Broadway hit Hamilton. The series revolves around a high school drama department and its students.

During a Facebook Live interview Tuesday, Cravalho told Yahoo Movies all about the project, in which she will play one of the students, Lilette. “For my character, she comes from a family where it’s pretty tough. When she comes to school, she can find joy in drama and theater, and it’s beautiful because it’s real.”

When she was asked if it’s going to be the Fame for this generation, Cravalho hadn’t heard of the 1980s TV series before. Okay, deep breaths. We forgive you, Auli’i.

The 16-year-old is no doubt excited about the series, as you can tell in the video above. But she might be even more excited about the fact that it’s being filmed in New York, because she “gets to wear scarves and coats,” and since she’s from Hawaii, it’s something she doesn’t often get to do.

Moana is now available on Digital HD and will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and on demand March 7.
