MLB unveils Field of Dreams throwback uniforms for Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds

The 2022 Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds will look like teams of the past when they take the field for this year’s Major League Baseball game at the Field of Dreams movie site Thursday.

The Cubs and Reds will wear throwback uniforms for the game, which takes place in a specially constructed stadium located near the Dyersville diamond made famous in the 1989 movie.

MLB unveiled the throwback uniforms Monday. The Cubs will wear uniforms that represent those worn during the late 1920s. The Reds will wear 1919-inspired uniforms.

"That brings a different aspect of our mentality of playing the game," Reds infielder Kyle Farmer said last week "You put on an old uniform and it's just a different feel to playing baseball. I think we're wearing our pants up. I don't normally wear my pants up but I think we're doing that. So that'll be kind of different."

The Cubs uniforms will feature a cream-colored base, navy striping around the sleeves and down the center of the jersey, and the logo of that era — a navy bear cub holding a bat encircled by the letter "C" on the chest. The team will also wear a matching navy cap during the game featuring the vintage Cubbie bear logo.

Cincinnati's uniforms are white with navy pinstripes and the team's classic logo on the left chest. The Reds will wear caps with white and navy pinstripes all around and a vintage red "C" on front.

The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees, who played in last year’s game, also wore custom-made throwback uniforms when they played in Dyersville.

"Field of Dreams" is about an Iowa farmer who plows over his corn to build a baseball field for the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson and other members of the banished White Sox team that "threw" the 1919 World Series. Cincinnati beat the Sox in the 1919 Series.
