Mitski has officially released her cover of Pete Seeger’s “Coyote, My Little Brother” as part of her new contribution to the Spotify Singles series.

This past September, Mitski debuted her version of the song during an intimate show at New York City’s Town Hall. Originally written by American folk singer Peter Lafarge, “Coyote, My Little Brother” first appeared on Lafarge’s 1963 album As Long as the Grass Shall Grow before Seeger took it on for his own LP, Broadsides: Songs and Ballads, one year later.

While introducing “Coyote, My Little Brother” as the final song during her set at Town Hall, Mitski praised Seeger for his environmental work in the Hudson Valley. “Bless him,” she said, before gloomily admitting that Seeger’s efforts mostly went for naught.

In addition to the cover, Mitski’s Spotify Singles entry contains a new studio recording of “Buffalo Replaced” from her 2023 full-length, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, one of the best albums released last year. This version strips down the song to focus mostly on Mitski’s voice and the acoustic guitar, without any grand string flourishes. Stream both tracks below.

Mitski is set to resume her tour in support of The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We later this month. Read our concert review for what to expect, and find deals for tickets to all of her upcoming North American dates here and international shows here.

Outside of being a road warrior, Mitski will also be writing the music and lyrics for an upcoming Broadway adaptation of The Queen’s Gambit.
